Whenever you find a list of the worlds best cities on the Internet the name Toronto is on it. As Lorne Marr knows, Toronto is great and there are many reasons for it. Here are seven of them:
Toronto is a city that has learned to turn diversity into a plus. People of many cultures have chosen to make Toronto their home shaping the city into a unique and vibrant community. Everybody is accepted and made to feel welcome.
Economically the city is sound. It is home to Canada’s major stock exchange and seen as the banking and financial capital of the country. Ontario has no shortage of natural resources and this has helped Toronto to become a major industrial center. It produces more than half of the manufactured products of Canada.
Over the years Toronto has build a reputation of being very clean. The residents are very proud of that and everyone is working hard to make sure it stays that way. Several programs to keep the city “green” and environmentally friendly are launched every year.
The transportation in the city is second to none. It is one of the few big cities in the world where you can get around without a car. It has great bus and streetcar network complemented by a large and effective subway system. The authorities have wisely introduced new model hybrid buses to limit air pollution.
It is a great place to shop and enjoy a meal out. The mix of cultures makes a night on the town an interesting experience. There are more than 5000 restaurants offering something to make every taste bud stand up and applaud.
The teachers in Toronto are well-paid and not without reason. The standard of teaching is excellent. The city is also home to one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
Entertainment is varied and easy to find. Whether you like to visit an amusement park like the highly acclaimed Wonderland, art gallery or museum you will find a variety to choose from. If you are a music lover you will find performances in many different genres where you can listen and enjoy.
Toronto is a city at peace with itself. There is a strong community spirit and even though it is home to 6 million people, at heart Toronto is still a small, friendly town where people care. Lorne Marr can only say that it is a great place to visit and a great place to stay.
